HOW TO PLAY

Minesweeper

  1. Tap a square to open it. Your first tap is always safe.
  2. A number shows how many of the 8 squares around it hide a mine.
  3. Flag the mines (right-click, or turn on Flag mode) and open every other square to win.
HOW SCORING WORKS

The rules in detail

Easy is 9 by 9 with 10 mines; Medium is 16 by 16 with 40 mines, the same sizes as classic Beginner and Intermediate. Mines are placed after your first tap and never on that square or the 8 around it, so the first tap always opens an area. A number counts the mines in the 8 touching squares; squares with no neighbouring mines open their neighbours automatically. You win when every square without a mine is open; flags are optional. The timer starts on the first tap and each level keeps its best time.

Tips

  • If a 1 touches only one hidden square, that square is a mine: flag it.
  • When a number already has all its mines flagged, every other square around it is safe.
  • Look for the 1-2-1 and 1-2-2-1 patterns along edges: they tell you exactly where mines are.
